UPRT FOR INSTRUCTORS

uprt_training

COURSE DURATION – 1 week

MANDATORY :
Academic training : 13 hrs
FSTD Flight Training: 8 hours + 4 hours ground course

OPTIONAL : On Aeroplane Training:  3.5 hours + 4 hours ground course

DESCRIPTION :
When starting a UPRT project, operators should first select an individual or a team to be charged with the design and implementation of the programme. This team should form the core-group of instructors to setup the UPRT program (ref IATA Guidance Material and Best Practices for the Implementation of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training, June 2015).

Note: The duration of the course depends on the experience and knowledge of the pilot to be trained. The training duration shall be adapted  to  comply with the new UPRT regulation objectives.

ACADEMIC :
Thorough understanding of environmental factors, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, aircraft performance, aircraft design principles and human factors is an indispensable prerequisite for successful upset prevention. Academic training is therefore of critical importance for the success of a UPRT program.

Theoretical training is classroom-based. In case of COVID-19 restrictions, some parts could be delivered via video-conference.

FSTD :
LEVELC/D.This course includes also knowledge of the FSTD VTE, UPRT related functions of the IOS and instructional aspects specific to the delivery of UPRT. Training on the limitations of the specific FSTD will enable instructors to provide upset recovery training consistent with the capabilities and performance of the specific aircraft type. It will also reduce the risk of negative training that could easily occur with an untrained instructor.

ON AEROPLANE :
*On-aeroplane training for the core-group instructors is not a requirement. It is recommended however to allow the core-group to acquire first-hand experience of the success-critical human factors during recoveries of upsets.

PREREQUISITES :
When selecting instructors for the core-group the following aspects should be considered:

  • Motivation to deliver UPRT
  • All-attitude flying experience (civil or military aerobatics)
  • Experience as a Flight Instructor
  • Experience as Test Pilot
  • Experience as FTSD instructor
